Lumen Solutions was honoured that Piller’s Fine Foods trusted us to help them reduce their lighting and maintenance costs, find energy savings, as well as improve health and safety for their employees with better lighting conditions. This unique project required extensive planning to ensure smooth installation with minimal disruptions to Pillar’s 24-7 manufacturing operations. Our team understood the importance of maintaining the highest health and safety standards while working within a food processing plant.

We strategically broke the lighting plan into hundreds of micro-tasks that could be executed by a small group of certified professionals. This lighting team was specifically trained to work within a food manufacturing environment. The micro-tasks were squeezed into extremely tight time frames and completed in-between plant shift changes and breaks. A dedicated team was tasked solely with moving products into/out of the facilities to ensure extra care was taken for health and safety measures.

Clear communications were key to this project’s success. Lumen Solutions adjusted and tweaked our installation process to adapt to ever changing manufacturing production schedules. More than 12,000 ft of breakable fluorescent tubes were successfully removed and recycled. New, safer LED lights were installed without interruption to any plant production. We took the time to choose the best lighting equipment that met and/or exceeded regulatory requirements, including new integrated food grade fixtures and retrofitted products.

The final lighting design was so successful, Piller’s asked Lumen Solutions to also upgrade their Brantford manufacturing plant as well. In total, Lumen Solutions found Piller’s Fine Foods an annual savings of $219,877 with payback in less than 1 year!
